During the time as a student abroad, the artist often encountered discarded baguette crusts on the streets of London and Berlin. For her, those pieces were not a meal, but a desperate act to stave off hunger. A baguette fallen on the cold ground felt like a reflection of herself—a drifting artist in a foreign land. Upon returning to Korea, she found herself enduring life in a small house that offered no true rest, serving merely as a place for sleep. To juxtapose the house and the baguette—which had come to share the same meaning—she crafted baguette sculptures using various construction materials typically used to build a home. Three baguette pieces made of these rough, industrial materials. Within these sculptures, the expected rest is nowhere to be found; instead, there is only a continuous variation of hollow shells. 

작가의 유학 시절, 런던과 베를린의 거리에서 버려진 바게트 조각을 보곤 했다. 그것은 식사가 아니라 배고픔을 잊기 위한 행위였다. 바닥에 떨어진 바게트는 이국에서 떠도는 작가였다. 한국으로 돌아와 안식은 느끼지 못하고 수면만 취하는 거처에 불과한 작은 집에서 버텼다. 한국에서 거주하거나 거쳐 간 공간들은 양적으론 여러 개였지만, 질적으론 결국 같은 공간이었다. 동일한 의미로 다가온 집과 바게트를 병치하기 위해, 작가는 집을 짓는 데 사용되는 다양한 건축 자재로 바게트 조각을 만들었다. 거친 재료로 만든 3개의 바게트 조각. 조각 내부엔 있어야 할 안식은 없고 비워진 껍데기 형태의 변주만 이어진다.

Delusion

It was there 

A light falls upon the clay brick wall, projecting a long and ethereal shape. 

점토 벽돌로 세운 가벽에 빛이 드리워져 긴 형상을 연출한다. 

A Shower

Children often exhibit the behavior of spitting things out when they feel anxious. The video captures ambiguous movements—as if spitting out words or chewing on something unseen. Then, popcorn is spat out. This signifies a regressive spitting, symbolizing a period when the artist experienced depression and anxiety. The popcorn, springing from behind a temporary wall, represents the life of an artist, constantly crossing borders and drifting through various global cities.

아이들은 불안할 때 입안의 것을 뱉는 행동을 한다. 영상은 마치 말을 뱉는 듯한, 뭔가를 씹는 듯한, 모호한 움직임을 보여준다. 그리고 입 밖으로 튀어나오는 팝콘. 이는 뱉는 퇴행을 의미하며, 작가가 우울과 불안을 크게 느끼던 시기를 상징한다. 가벽 뒤에서 튀어나오는 팝콘은 여러 나라의 도시를 거치며 경계를 넘나드는 작가의 삶을 가리킨다.
